The Certification Track requires individuals to record their couples sessions in a HIPAA-compliant format, whether they are conducted in-person or virtually. Submitted video segments of the interventions should be in the 15-30 minute range, but we will also accept full-length sessions so long as timestamps are included.
Videos are only shared for educational purposes and are not released publicly unless authorized by the customers. The Gottman Institute asks mental health professionals and their clients to sign release forms to ensure that each party understands what the recording entails.
For in-person recording, individuals can use any system that they would like, so long as the files can be uploaded to a computer and edited.
Virtual therapy over Zoom, VSee, and other such platforms can be recorded directly in the system itself. The Gottman Institute does not recommend any one specific product, but we encourage you to seek HIPAA-compliant screen-recording software that you can use to capture the interventions being used in your counseling sessions.
